We have fewer than 500 days until the opening of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020, but do you know that a world expo will be held in October that same year in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates? As the next major world fair before Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai, it is an important occasion for showcasing the appeals of Osaka and the Kansai region as well as the quality of Japanese design and other highlights of Japanese culture.

Expo 2020 Dubai takes place over a period of 173 days from October 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021. Marking 50 years in 2021 since the foundation of the UAE, it is the first officially recognized large-scale world expo to be held in the Middle East and Africa region.

The theme of the Dubai Expo is Connecting Minds, Creating the Future.

What can the Japan Pavilion present to the world based on this theme?

Through creating encounters between technologies, people and ideas from a global and future-oriented perspective, and then fusing these together, Japan will contribute actions to improve our world.

As a country that has taken on many challenges in the process of its development, Japan has already devised the means for resolving various issues. Building on this know-how, Japan is now putting new questions to the world, encouraging empathy and taking the initiative in seeking out answers.

At the Japan Pavilion, visitors will experience examples of such encounters, empathy, and actions. Our hope is to impart some insight to each person toward solving issues and living in harmony in tomorrow’s world.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Japan Pavilion.
